Nai'a Blu-ray Upgrade
May 2009
Dear Nai'a guest, I hope you are well and that you enjoyed the DVD that I made for you.
I have recently invested in the hardware and software to make high definition Blu-ray discs from my videos. I kept the original HDV file from your trip and so I would now like to offer you the chance to purchase your trip video as a Blu-ray disc.
Blu-ray discs look just like CDs or DVDs but high-definition footage can be included with no down-sizing or re-compression. To put this into context, the standard definition DVD that I made for you has 480 horizontal lines of resolution, whereas the Blu-ray has a whopping 1080 lines of full-HD quality. The preview you saw on the Nai'a had 720 lines of resolution, so this is better than that. I was stunned by the clarity and detail when I tested the discs the other day on a big full-HD screen.
The Blu-ray can be played on "set top" Blu-ray players that plug into your TV. The price of these is dropping rapidly since Blu-ray won the HD war with HD-DVD. This might be just the excuse you are looking for to invest in the new technology.
The disc will also play on a Sony Playstation 3 (I have tested this), or in software such as PowerDVD, WinDVD or Nero if your computer has a Blu-ray reading drive (most new computers now do).
I have put some nice scene-selection menus in the disc, and it comes with a printed face similar to the DVD. Complete with a high-quality Blu-ray box, this is a perfect keepsake of your trip or a nice gift for your dive buddy.
The Blu-ray is charged at GBP £30 (approx. USD 50) plus GBP £4 P&P. To purchase a copy please contact me.
I have records of which cruise you were on but if your payment account name/address don't make it clear who you are, please let me know!
Some Nai'a guests have also asked me about the marine life DVD that I showed on board. You can find details about that here.
I am also in the process of uploading lots of other video at the moment, starting with the Bali and Lembeh sections. Lots more coming soon.
Best wishes, Nick
